We are less than two weeks out from the premiere of That 90’s Show, Netflix’s That 70’s Show requel, and my premonition of the death of Topher Grace’s character Eric gets stronger by the day.
Topher’s appearance in the latest That 90’s Show trailer doesn’t make me feel any better. You know who else appeared in a trailer? Bruce Willis in the Sixth Sense! Below I will present all the evidence that Netflix will off Topher Grace(‘s character).
Exhibit A: The Premise
We know That 90’s Show will follow Leia, Eric and Donna’s daughter, while she stays with her grandparents. But why would a child be spending extended time at her grandparent’s house? Could it perhaps be because her father has died, and her mother’s grief is so great she can no longer look at her daughter without thinking of her lost partner? There is literally no other explanation.
Exhibit B: Eric’s happiness
The brief glimpses we get of Eric in this trailer paint a picture of an overall happy life. He and Donna (Laura Prepon) still appear to be together and in love. It’s giving “Carrie and Mr. Big cooking a fish together in the And Just Like That pilot.”
There are hints that he’s having trouble connecting with his teenage daughter, which is clearly a setup for an arc where Leia feels guilty for not spending more time with her father when he was alive.
Exhibit C: The 90’s
A dead parent just feels like the 90’s. Change my mind.
Exhibit D: The Wig
Topher Grace has an estimated net worth of $14 million. He’s only wearing that wig for two days, tops.
Look, I wish I was wrong, but all the signs point to Topher being dead meat! I kinda hope Netflix has the balls to replace him with Seth Meyer’s brother.
I’ll be talking That 70’s Show and That 90’s Show this whole month!1 I’ll even be joined by a special guest next week. Stay tuned!
I thought about branding January “That 70’s Month,” but then I stopped to consider all my parents sacrificed to help put me through college. I don’t want them to see that and think it was all for nothing.
